Alvin was a leader of The Blasters, one of the best bar bands of the
80's. Since then, Alvin has refined and simplified his sound, evoking
the old west and traditional folk. Blackjack David is filled with simple
songs about undramatic situations involving himself and realistic
middle american characters who he refuses to condescend to. Alvin's
strong, understated vocals and the unadorned music match the stories. Most of
the songs revolve around Alvin's acoustic guitar. The very spare
instrumentation keeps the focus where it should be, on the songs.
