Review by DjBatman 3 stars out of 4
Leilani is one of the latest attempts in UK's dance music scene to
launch a solo female dance act, and she partially reaches her aim.
The original version of "Madness thing" is neither too bad nor
too commercial but it still lacks of something; so ZTT has called a group
of experts in the field: The Beatmasters, who about 10 years ago helped
launching the career of female UK rapper Betty Boo. The Beatmaster
Extended mix brings Leilani closer to things like Chumbawamba but at the
same time the choice of certain sounds seems reminiscent of the Betty
Boo experience. Finally, Breakneck's version removes most of the original
to concentrate on chemical breakbeats and spacey sounds. There's a second
"Madness thing" cd plus another two-part single out there, but
I haven't had the chance to listen to them yet. The cd case contains a
cute little poster with Leilani cartoons and I think I have seen an
official website somewhere but it's currently offline (meanwhile you can
still find some info on her and her music n ZTT's site at
http://www.ztt.com). Not bad, but there
is enough here to say that Leilani could do better. Let's see if she can
do it and climb the charts. "Touch me, touch me with your madness
thing / touch me, touch me / make me swing..."
