Review by JustinW 4 stars out of 4
Everything D'Angelo did with this album was perfect. The raw and dirty
sound of the instruments and his voice, the unique bass lines that the
song posesses, EVERYTHING IS PERFECT. I wouldn't suggest going out and
purchasing the album if you are looking for the same slow, smooth songs
of Brown Sugar. But I would suggest buying it if you truly appreciate
music and artists who are not afraid to do something different. This
album not only shows where music will be going in the future but, where
it should be now. This album also reaffirms D's song writing status (as
if there was any doubt). It proves that he is one of if not the best
song writers of the 90's. (Along with Dave Matthews but that's another
review). I can't even compare this album to anything else because
it's sound is so unique. The best way for me to tell you about
the album is for me to tell you to go pick up two copies. One for
your car and one for home, because it will be forever stuck
inside of your CD player.
