Review by Ken 4 stars out of 4
When this album first came out, Rolling Stone called it The Bible. Okay, so
that was definitely an exaggeration on their part. What is undeniable
however, is that the music here is so wonderfully sad and beautiful that
it's sure to bring an unexpected smile to your face even as you find
yourself wiping away the tears. Frontman J. Mascis sings like he's in a
state of such repressed frustration and agony, emotions that breathe sincere
honesty into unforgettable rockers like 'Out There', 'Start Choppin' and
'Drawerings'. And if you find Mascis's groaning vocals tedious, then you're
just not getting the point of all this. Or maybe you just need to be a manic
depressive.
