Michael Myers, the white-masked serial killer from John
Carpenter's HALLOWEEN gets immortalized in action figure format by the only
people who seem to make scary toys fun even for 8 year olds- McFarlane Toys.
Seeing as how the extremely collectible nature of the Movie Maniac figs make
them really hard to be found on toy shelves anywhere, I practically stared
in disbelief when I saw both this and the Norman Bates figure on sale at
this comic book shop I frequent in downtown Singapore. Needless to say, I
made the frantic purchase without a second thought.
So is the figure cool or what? Dumb question. It's absolutely
bitching. Sure, there was a lot of controversy when it first came out
because a lot of hardcore fans were complaining how Michael Myer's pupils
could be seen through his mask; whereas this was not so in the movie. Funny
how this did not stop most of them from buying the figure anyway. Then of
course, there was the lack of articulation in the legs to contend with. But
all I have to say is this- a couple of years ago, nobody even dared to THINK
that action figures like this would ever get made. So maybe we should all
just shut the hell up and be grateful for what we now have.
The detailing on the figure is close to excellent, and
should make even John Carpenter proud. Michael has stains on his mask,
hands, shoes and all over his trademark blue workman's outfit. Articulation
exists at the neck, waist, wrists, right bicep, shoulders and ankles.
Accessories aren't that many; but you get a large butcher knife and a carved
pumpkin; as well a marquee stand with a replica of the original HALLOWEEN
movie poster. I give this toy a 4 out of 5 rating. After getting this, go
rent the movie on video and experience its unrelenting terror and suspense
all over again.
