With SNK folding its tent this year, Capcom's new game could be your last chance to play with
SNK's world-renowned King of Fighters characters.
Capcom vs. SNK offers two fighting styles. The Capcom style is based on the Alpha series with
super combos. The SNK style is based on the King of Fighters series, with super special moves.
Frankly, this game is loaded with 28 characters. Returning favorites include Ryu, Ken, Chun Li,
Guile, Zangief, Blanka, and SNK characters like Kyo, Iori, Mai, Terry, Raiden, and Benimaru.
The graphics are bright and colorful, with neat, even if unrealistic, lighting effects. Take, for
instance, the foreground characters' shadows, which appear on the backgrounds. Sometimes the
shadows only appear on one layer of the backgrounds, but this extremely minor flaw is never
distracting.
Capcom vs. SNK delivers the goods for fans of the genre, much in the same way as Marvel vs.
Capcom. Hopefully the SNK franchise will continue under Capcom's banner, and the sequel
will be as successful as the Marvel sequel.
