The first thing you should do with Excitebike 64 is beat the tutorial mode, which won't take long
with about 20 single tests. Beat it, and you unlock the original 8-bit classic (complete with level
design option!). Be sure to play this hidden game; it will be great to see how they translated the
elements into the new 3-D game.
Excitebike 64 follows the conventions of the original game, with turbo boosts that, when used
too often, will burn out your engine.
The only problems with the 3-D game are the poor turning and weak acceleration. Without these
problems, the game may have received an "A."
Shortcuts are littered throughout the courses, and you can make the experience even more
interesting with optional stunt performances.
The better levels, like the very atmospheric snow level, are available late in the game. For those
of you who stick with it, Excitebike 64 should be a joy ride even in the earlier, less scenic areas.
