Hey You, Pikachu! is a children's game that uses the same kind of voice recognition technology
as seen in this year's Seaman. As you know, we raved over Seaman and think it is a shoo-in for
the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences' Game of the Year award.
If you've played Seaman, imagine what the game would be like if the narrator stopped and told
you what to do every five seconds (via text, not dialogue). That is precisely what this game
does. Almost nothing is left for you to discover through exploration or experimentation.
To make matters worse, Pikachu never talks to you like Seaman does. The novelty of
conversation with a video game character is absent in this game.
Children will still enjoy watching Pikachu play and being able to interact with him directly on a
limited basis, but Nintendo could have gone a lot further and produced a game that lasts more
than two hours.
