The first Nintendo 64 game of 1999 has been hailed as the ultimate party game. Mario
Party may be fun, but not enough to warrant its price tag. The game has two main
problems.
First, the multi-player board games are too slow. Each player's turn should go by faster,
even if it seems like the characters are on speed. Waiting your turn is just not fun, and
it gets old quickly.
Secondly, the 56 mini-games are far too simplistic in nature. Many mini-games require
the same strategies as other mini-games. However, this simplicity has an up side,
because anyone can jump in and play, regardless of age or video game experience.
If you're playing by yourself, go to Mini-Game Island so you don't have to wait for
computer-controlled players to take their turns. Mini-Game Island includes all 56 mini-
games sprawled over nine worlds. You should be able to plow through the games fairly
quickly, perhaps finishing by the week's end.
If you're still in elementary school, Mario Party is just the ticket. If not, wait for Super
Mario 64 II.
