Review by Tom Allen 1½ Stars out of 4 (Review of N64 version)
Half of this collection of six old-school games is for the birds. Defender, Robotron 2084, and
SiniStar are simple variations of shooter games.
Spy Hunter is a fun obstacle-based racing game. I wish today's racing games would build on the
ideas presented here.
Root Beer Tapper is addictive. You play a bartender who must tap root beer fast enough to keep
up with a mindless string of thirsty customers. Break any glasses or let a customer get too close
and your game is over.
Joust is the best game in the compilation. The only problem is the controls, which don't allow
for the same smooth mid-air directional changes that were permitted in the original. The Atari
7800 actually did it better.
In fact, the controls for all games are cause for pause. Moving from counter to counter in the
Root Beer game is horribly delayed. This game could have received a 'B' with better controls.
Check out the Game Boy version of Joust/Defender for much better quality.
