Mobil 1 looks a lot like Colin McRae Rally with its colorful, seasonal graphics. Like other rally
games, slightly helpful pointers are used for upcoming turns.
Just when you think tracks will forever be monotonous, a short stretch of a good sight-seeing
area appears… but goes by all too quickly. I don't understand why designers don't make
landscapes that are awe-inspiring in their beauty. Well, actually I do. They unnecessarily pin
themselves to so-called real-life courses. For example, this game is based on all 36 stages of the
Official British Rally Championship.
Only recently have we been treated to colorful landscapes, as if that was some big innovation.
The courses in Mobil 1 just feel closed in.
Like Beetle Adventure Racing, you have to steer by tapping the D-pad in a tap-tap-tap motion.
However, this technique does not always work thanks to the erratic control, which ultimately
kills the game. Go with V-Rally 2, which has a higher buck-bang ratio with its decent track
editor.
