Monkey HeroŽ is a show of how a good story and concept can turn into a
dreadfully awful and slow moving video game. Monkey HeroŽ is based
on The Monkey Folk Novel of China by Wu Ch'eng-En. For me,
any game based on a true story or folklore gets a good rating, because it
takes a lot of talent to put something that has already happened into
a game-- you really can't stray from the story line that much. When
you make a game completely up it is easier to adlib things in.But my
rating system dosen't work very well with Monkey HeroŽ. The games'
story plot moves very slow, which leaves you with a lot of time to notice
the not so dazzling graphics. At some points in the game when you enter
the dungeons and a few of the forests the screen becomes so dark
that it is hard to see your enemys. The control is just awful and the
select menu can be a pain at times. Though Monkey HeroŽ does sport
the overhead view much similar to the ZeldaŽ series made popular on the
NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) the view can become annoying at times.
Like I said at first . . . this is a good story turned into a bad video game.
