In Pokemon Snap, you ride a cart through a short safari ride, and you must take 60
pictures of every Pokemon you see. At the end of each level, the professor will score
your photos based on size, pose, and number of Pokemon captured in the shot. You
are also scored on whether or not the subject is centered. Photographers will detest
this requirement. The most effective pictures are rarely centered for compositional
reasons, but I guess the developers couldn't figure out a way for the computer to judge
composition. Maybe they will for the sequel.
The game is very simple but surprisingly difficult. You can attract Pokemon with food as
well as the music of the pokeflute, but of course, this doesn't work for all breeds of
Pokemon.
For the sequel, I hope you can walk around and set up shots rather than be pressed
against a time limit. This is such a creative idea that it begs for more creative execution
and game play. Let us play, Nintendo! Let us take our time! Get rid of that damned
mine cart or whatever!
