Review by Tom Allen 3½ Stars out of 4 (Review of Dreamcast version)
After its initial release on the PC, Quake III Arena scored a nomination for Action Game of the
Year (PC) from the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences. Now Dreamcast owners are
treated to their own version.
Quake III Arena is strictly a multi-player game, with important options for online play that are
the highlight of the game. Interestingly, it appeals to players who are not fans of the regular one-
player series. Amazingly, Dreamcast owners can actually compete with PC owners of the game
online, in effect tearing down the Berlin Wall of video games.
Fourteen (14) of the 30 arenas are exclusive to the Dreamcast version. A variety of game modes
results in long-term interest, complete with Capture the Flag, one-on-one tournament, team-
based deathmatch, and frag-point free-for-all deathmatch.
Quake III Arena costs $50 and is compatible with the Dreamcast mouse and keyboard.
