Midway's boxing hit for the Dreamcast has been updated for the PS2. The graphics have a
plastic look that detracts from the hard-core feel of boxing. You'll never capture the feeling of a
Mike Tyson fight in this game. The best you will get is the feel of an MTV Celebrity
Deathmatch episode.
With Bill and Hillary Clinton as selectable characters, you can't mistake the game's comic
approach. The problem is this game doesn't go far enough. When you tease us with such
exciting ideas, you have to give us more, Midway! Unfortunately, the game heightens its own
expectations beyond what it has to offer. In other words, it gets boring quickly.
The controls and cameras are fine, and the animation is done well. Your fighter even shows
signs of wear and tear, as scars and bruises appear on your body. Ready 2 Rumble is a good
game, even though it has a sort of empty feeling. Midway needs to pick a theme and stick with it
- serious boxing, or comedy that doesn't let up any more or less than the punches.
