Sky Odyssey is the first major flight sim for the PS2. Unlike the PS2 FPS games, this title is
actually a worthwhile addition to its genre and console system. While the game is a complete
experience, every facet of it has a down side.
The graphics are not very detailed. The landscapes are boring, and the camera should be at a
higher angle. If you climb to a high altitude, you can't look down without actually flying
downward. Also, since the landscapes are not particularly interesting or detailed, they don't look
impressive from high above. In real life, you get a sense of awe looking down on the world --
not so in this game.
The missions are also fairly mundane, but completing them gives you a real sense of
accomplishment. Sky Odyssey makes me appreciate PilotWings 64 more. That game was better
able to captivate the player with interesting landscapes and fun interactivity. Sky Odyssey is
more serious fare, so it's impressive but not as fun.
