Speed Punks has no glaring problems, but with Crash Team Racing on the market, I'm not sure
how it can compete. I suspect Sony is aiming this at younger players who find Crash Team
Racing too challenging.
In truth, I had almost as much fun playing this as I did Crash. I would have had more fun had the
game featured Crash's ability to bounce. The game is surprisingly challenging, but the important
thing here is that the game never abandons fun for frustration.
While the game is clearly a rip-off of Mario Kart in style and design, it is no more offensive in
that regard than Crash. Furthermore, Mario Kart never had missiles that fired backwards!
I have to complain about the extremely short courses. Half the CD must be empty.
Lastly, one of the racers caught my eye. I'm sorry, but when you name a racer Monica, and her
bio says "She has a strange effect on boys, reducing them to babbling idiots," I can't help but
wonder if the programmers had some whiskey with that Lewinsky.
