Deep Rising

This movie was SUPPOSED to suck big-time, but it just didn't. Instead, it serves up almost 2 hours worth of solid, old-fashioned fun and excitement, with a cool deep-sea monster thrown in for good measure. Starring B-movie favourite TREAT WILLIAMS and GOLDENEYE babe FAMKE JANNSEN, the story revolves around a team of heavily armed mercenary-types who board a cruise ship with the hopes of robbing the wealthy passengers on board. Unfortunately for them, a horror from the ocean's depths has beaten them to it. So instead of riches, all they find are the dismembered and half-eaten body parts of the hapless crew. Thus, the cat-and-mouse setting is set; between the monster and the newcomers aboard the ship. But even if you feel as though you've seen it all before, you'll still find it all pretty thrilling. Heck, the only other sea monster flicks that I can remember from the past decade were LEVIATHAN and DEEP STAR SIX; and this one beats their collective aqua asses.
