For a series that spawned 8 sequels ( hell, not even the Police Academy
movies made it that far), you'd be forgiven for expecting this first
installment to be revolutionary or something. But like all the sequels that
followed it, the first movie also sported bad acting and typical horror
movie cliches; yet remains crucial viewing for die-hard slasher movie fans
if only to see how the entire Friday franchise got started. Some highlights
(besides the obligatory sex and violent murders) include seeing a much
younger Kevin Bacon playing one of the teenagers destined to be hacked; as
well as the interesting plot twist involving the killer's identity.
