They are back again! The stars from the 1990 hit movie,"Pretty
Women" are back again. Julia Roberts and Richard Gere rekindle
their old flames in the new movie,"Runaway Bride." In
this movie Richard Gere plays the USA Today columnist Ike Graham, who's
columns are always aimed towards offending the opposite sex. In the
beginning of the movie you find Graham in a bar where he usually comes
up with his last second articles. But, on this day he runs across
a man who gives him an idea that will change his life forever. A
story about a little city lady who likes to leave men standing at the
alter. Her name is Maggi Carpenter(Julia Roberts). But, the
next morning Graham is in for a big surprise when Maggie, after reading
the disrespectful and humiliating article, calls in to the Editor of the
USA Today (Rita Wilson, Ellie) and complains that the column was totally
wrong. It just so happens though that Ellie is Graham's ex-wife.
And she has no choice but to fire Graham because of the slanderous
article. Graham is then upset, but strikes an idea.
He will go to the little town of Hale, MD and confront Maggie in
hope that he can prove that his article was true after all.
Thereafter, Graham makes a Bill Murray (from the movie Bob) type of
entrance, immediately making friends with all of Maggie's friends.
From then on its is just Hollywood magic between Gere and Roberts.
As the movie progresses the all so predictable event happens,
Graham falls for Maggie. Although you think the movie will end
there, the movie drags on. When Ike gets a taste of what it
feels like to be left at the alter by the male heartbreaker (aka. Maggie
Carpenter). But, the ending is sweet and shows you that Julia
Roberts can play both sides of the story. The movie ends on a note
that you thought would have happened a half hour earlier, but the movie
is definitely one of the funniest romantic comedies of the summer.
Gere is hilarious, while Julia's role brings out the fiestiest in
her. At times the movie will drag on, but not for long.
