3½ stars out of 4

Sydney ( NEVE CAMPBELL) and her friends are once again stalked by some prick in a Mr. Ghostface costume; only this time the rules of survival are to avoid doing what victims normally find themselves doing in movie sequels. Writer KEVIN WILLIAMSON and director WES CRAVEN once again mix suspense and dark humour to maximum effect; producing a sequel that is thoroughly satisfying from start to finish. A standout scene is one where Sydney and her friend are helplessly trapped in the backseat of a crashed police car; with the stalker unconscious in the driver's seat. Watching them trying to get of out that jam has got to rank as one of the most tension-filled moments in recent film history. Although I have to admit the ending was pretty uninspiring; the movie more than makes up for it with its combination of pretty faces (including series newcomers JADA PINKETT, SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR and REBECCA GAYHEART), first-rate suspense and witty, Generation-X-tailored dialogue.
