The Thomas Crown Affair is about a very wealthy man (played adequately
by Pierce Brosnan) who, looking for new challenges after conquering the
business world, decides to steal a very famous painting.
Surprisingly, stealing the $100 million painting doesn't provide much
of a challenge to Thomas Crown (nor excitement for the audience).
Instead, Crowne must get his thrills by toying with the sexy insurance
investigator, played by Rene Russo. The movie strives to be one-part
suspense thriller, one-part love story, and doesn't really succeed at
either. As a result, we get a mediocre "romantic thriller",
which contains just enough style to prevent the movie from being a
complete disappointment. In both tone and plot this film
resembles the recent "Entrapment"-- a similarly mediocre
thriller with a sexy co-star. However, if you did like Entrapment, by
all means, see this movie. Overall, this film is extremely mediocre,
with the only high point being a quite humorous museum scene near the end of
the film (although there are Rene Russo's first nude scenes).
